Published by Today's News Herald on Dec. 1, 2024 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - With heartfelt reverence, we commemorate the life of Amy Kathryn Schmaltz, a compassionate soul who made this world a brighter place with her presence. Born on Aug. 12, 1942 in Detroit. Amy lived an exemplary life of 82 years, filled with warmth, laughter, and unending kindness. Amy resided in Lake Havasu City for the last 16 years, where she became a beloved member of the community. A funny and smart woman with a witty sense of humor, Amy never failed to bring joy to those around her. She had a profound love for dogs and found immense pleasure in their companionship. Her passion for reading knew no bounds and she often found herself lost in the world of books. Amy was also an incredible cook, always ready to whip up a delicious meal, making every occasion a special one. She was the embodiment of the quote, "The secret of happiness is not in doing what one likes, but in liking what one does." She lived this mantra, pouring love into everything she did. Amy is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Schmaltz; her son, James Schmaltz and daughter-in-law, Melissa Schmaltz; her daughter, Laurie Derfler and son-in-law, Dean Derfler. Her legacy continues to shine through her grandson, Jarin Schmaltz and great-granddaughter, Elisabeth Schmaltz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Richardson and Ruth Renard. Amy's life was a testament to living passionately and loving deeply. Her memory will forever be a beacon of joy, love, and strength for all who knew her.
