| C. Howard Smith Born in Lebanon, New Jersey on March 8, 1919. Departed on June 26, 2007 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona. C. Howard Smith, 88, resident of Cottonwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2007. He was born March 8, 1919 in Lebanon, New Jersey to Edgar D. and Vera M. Smith. Howard attended Rutgers University from 1937-1942, where he obtained his Masters Degree. He also served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. Howard worked for Standard Equipment Company, garden State Publishing, and Watt Publishing. Howard was also an original member of the Borden Boys-who took care of Elsie the Cow, which was the Borden Mascot at the New York World’s Fair. In his youth, Howard was a Boy Scout, and later in his life served as Scout Master and had the opportunity to take a group of Scouts to the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Colorado Springs, Colorado; as well as, attended the Philmont Scout Camp in Philmont, New Mexico. Howard was also proud to be a 4-H Leader in New Jersey. Howard enjoyed traveling, reading, building things, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church, the Kiwanis, Key Club, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Order of Masons. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice M. Smith. Surviving him are four sons, Howard R. Smith, wife, Patti, Phoenix, Ariz., Robert C. Smith, wife, Jane, Leesburg, Va., James M. Smith, wife, Melodie, Waynesboro, Penn., and Barry C. Smith, wife, Dianne, Dallas, Texas; and four grandchildren. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, July 13, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mountain View United Methodist Church, 901 S. 12th St. in Cottonwood.
