Published by Today's News Herald on Jan. 15, 2025 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Zachary Michael Phelps, a kind-hearted, charismatic, and loving son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, tragically passed away in a car accident on January 2, 2025, at the age of 27. Zach was born on August 20, 1997, in Blythe, California, to Stevie and Amy Phelps. He grew up in Blythe and Ehrenberg, California, where he graduated from Palo Verde High School. On the same day, he received his Welding Technology Certificate from Palo Verde College in Blythe. At the time of his passing, Zach lived in Ehrenberg, Arizona, in the home he proudly purchased himself. Zach was employed by the Palo Verde Irrigation District as a night supervisor, becoming the youngest employee ever to be promoted to a supervisor in 2024. He was also a skilled welder and created many beautiful pieces that are displayed proudly by his family and friends. Zach had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying trips to the river, fishing, and spending time in the desert with his loved ones and his pup, Bella. He loved traveling, especially road trips, and found peace while cruising the highway with his favorite music playing. Zach was known for his ability to make friends wherever he went, and he had a network of friends that extended well beyond his hometown. His big, warm, and welcoming smile had the power to make others feel special and loved. His hugs were tight, intentional, and filled with meaning-making anyone in his embrace feel important and cared for. Zach had an infectious sense of humor and an uncanny ability to lift others' spirits, often turning tough moments into times of laughter. Zach was preceded in death by his mother Amy Phelps. Zach is survived by his father Stevie Phelps of Ehrenberg, his maternal grandparents Larry and Diane Angle of Lake Havasu, his fraternal grandparents Steve and Karla Phelps of Blythe, California, and Valerie Copple and John Weiss of Blythe, California, maternal great-grandmother Lonna Nelson of Medford, Oregon, fraternal great-grandparents Gary and Ruth Angle of Kingman, fraternal great-grandmother Betty Copple of Blythe, California, aunt and uncle Tawnya and Jeff Mosley of Wrightwood, California, aunt Lindi Phelps of Crescent City, California, his beloved puppy Bella and many more family, friends and coworkers. A memorial service to celebrate Zach's life will be held Friday, January 17, at 11am, at the Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home Chapel.
