The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ April 23, 2025, Page A-4 Alfred Allen Hershkowitz June 2, 1939 - August 16, 2024 Alfred A. Hershkowitz passed away peacefully on Aug. 16, 2024, in Bayfield, Colo. Born on June 2, 1939, in Prescott, Ariz., to Allen and Carolina (Macias) Hershkowitz., he and his brother, Leroy Howard, were raised with many Hershkowitz and Macias cousins in Congress and Wickenburg. His grandparents, Harry and Susan (Gallego) Hershkowitz, and Francisco and Aurora (Rodriguez) Macias, were instrumental in teaching ranch and outdoor life. His great-grandparents were Ramon and Canuta (Carrasco) Macias who founded the 160-acre 6M Rancho along the Hassayampa River. Part of his mother’s wedding gift was acreage on the ranch where they built a unique rock house to live and raise the family. Alfred learned to work hard from his father, uncles Manuel, Frank and Raymond Macias, and many cousins on both sides of the family. He made friends easily, was studious and enjoyed a variety of school activities and programs. When the ranch roundup came around, the entire family joined in gathering, branding, cooking and life itself. After graduating from Wickenburg High School in 1957, Al headed to California to seek his fortune. He married Nancy Dear and had a son, Gary Hershkowitz. Alfred started businesses in Chatsworth, Calif., with many military contracts. He married Beverley Buchanan where his children, Bruce and Teresa, were raised. In 1972, he married Judith Foote (daughter Becky), and they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage traveling, ranching and enjoying family and friendships over the years. He is precede in death by his baby sister, Diana Allene Hershkowitz (1937); parents, Allen and Carolina; son, Bruce Hershkowitz; close cousins, Shorty Macias, Bobby Warner, Frank Root, Nadine Macias, Junior, George, Richard, Louis and Leonard Hershkowitz. He is survived by wife, Judy; brother, Leroy; adult children, Gary, Teresa and Becky; grandchildren, Melissa (Missy), Anthony, Robin, Michelle, Heather, Bryan and Michael; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Riley; along with many cousins and friends. Internment of ashes will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. in the Garcia Pioneer Cemetery. Please join the family for a barbeque luncheon afterwards at the Elks Lodge in Wickenburg.
