Published by Yuma Sun on May 25, 2025 - Yuma, Arizona - Beloved father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, Wallace Lee Hunter, 74, passed suddenly on May 14, 2025, at his home in Yuma, Arizona. "Wally " was born in Shelley, Idaho on September 29, 1950, to Forrest L. Hunter and Judith McBride. His family moved to Soda Creek, California where his interests in building and design blossomed early as he built an elaborate tree house in the woods, enjoyed by many friends and siblings. Early in life he was exceptional at drawing and very detail oriented. He attended Dunsmuir High, Dunsmuir, California and graduated from Blackfoot High School, Blackfoot, Idaho. He then worked as an orderly at the State Hospital in Blackfoot to put himself through college. He graduated from Idaho State University at Pocatello in architecture. He worked for a time in Idaho Falls and ended up in Yuma, working in a private architectural firm, mainly designing businesses. He started and operated his own architectural firm for many years in Yuma specializing in commercial architecture where he met and maintained a community of fiends that surrounded him into retirement. He spent over 50 years in Yuma and considered it his home. He married Jackeline Decker in Lewisville, Idaho on November 27, 1970. A daughter, Shannon Lou, and son, Shane Wallace, both of whom he dearly loved, were born in Idaho. After that marriage ended, he remarried twice, to Ronda and Barbara, but was single at his death. He loved to cook and will forever be remembered for his BBQ ribs, French fries and chocolate chip cookies among many other culinary treats. He also loved fishing and gardening during the winter months in Yuma. He was a skilled woodworker who excelled at framing pictures. He had a wonderful sense of humor could be lovingly eccentric at times and he would engage all comers in intelligent or provocative conversation at the drop of a hat. He spent many years caring for his mother in Yuma before she moved to Utah, but, even then, he kept in regular touch with her. In fact, it was a missed phone call that alerted her to his difficulties on the day of his passing. Wally is survived by his mother, Judith McBride Christensen; siblings, Marsha (Lynn) Christensen, Tony (Lynda) Hunter, Jack Hunter, Randy (Elaine) Hunter, Judy (David) Kirkham; daughter, Shannon (Mark) Race; son, Shane (Tyson) Hunter, and grandsons, Jordan, Joshua, and Joseph Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Hunter; brother, Monty Hunter, and sister, Frankie Crouse. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
