Maggie Barkley

Mrs. Barkley Succumbs To Stroke
Death as the result of a paralytic stroke came within a few hours to Mrs. Maggie Barkley, 55,
1530 E. Jefferson St., yesterday morning in a local hospital. Mrs. Barkley worked at her daily job
Wednesday as usual, coming home about 3:30 o’clock in the afternoon, prepared her husband’s
dinner. They ate together before he left for his work about 4:30. Although, Mr. Barkley said, his
wife complained slightly of having pains in her hand and shoulder. Soon afterward a friend was
called who took Mrs. Barkley to the hospital where she died at 6 a.m. yesterday.
The deceased was a native of Wichita, Kans., came to Phoenix in 1928 and has made this her
home since. She was a member of the Holiness Church, the Eastern Stars of A. F. and A. M.
Masonic Lodge, and the Knights of Tabor.
Survivors include her husband, Williams; one son, Letoy Carter of Los Angeles, Calif.; stepson,
Thomas Barkley, of Berkeley, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Rosa Lee McCardell, Oakland, Calif; two
cousins, Bertha Clark, Phoenix, and Joseph Glenn, Wichita Kans.
Funeral arrangements pending at Webber’s Eastlake Mortuary.
