The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ June 25, 2025 Sandra Lee Moore December 31, 1946 - June 6, 2025 Sandra Lee Moore, 78, was lifted to Heaven into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 6. Sandra was born Dec. 31, 1946, in Providence, R.I., to Barbara (Chandler) Guy and Victor Guy. They moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 1949 to help Victor with his asthma. The marriage only lasted one more year, and they divorced in 1950. Interesting historical fact, the judge that presided over the divorce was Sandra Day O’Connor, the first woman judge on the Supreme Court. Sandra met her new stepfather in 1951, Ray Hovatter. Ray and Barbara had Sandra’s little sister, Jean, in 1953. The family moved to the Kofa Game Range/Sonoran Desert of Arizona, where Sandra was raised until the age of 21. On May 18, 1968, her life took a traumatic change. She and her older sister Lindsay were severely burned due to an accidental propane tank explosion. Six weeks later on June 29, Lindsay passed away due to the severe burns and trauma. Sandra also died during this time, and she was always proud to tell her testimony of seeing Heaven and being sent back, as she had more work to do for the Lord. The family relocated to Aguila, Ariz., in 1973. This is where Sandra met the love of her life, James M. Moore. They were married Jan. 21, 1977. In 1979, Joe Moore (son of James), moved into the home and she became a mom, where she helped raise him through his high school years. She remained married to James for 18 years until his death in 1995. Sandra was an avid outdoors woman; she loved traveling and exploring. She loved taking pictures of nature, family and any event that may be happening, like Gold Rush Days in Wickenburg. One of her happiest places on earth was on horseback, riding with friends. She always had a horse and a wild burro or two, as she loved having God’s creatures to care for. Her favorite companion was her brat dog, a Dachshund named Tyrell, or Ty, for short. If you knew Sandra, she was one of the strongest women you have ever met, physically, emotionally and spiritually. She was a fighter, and she fought to save and live her life on her terms. She was tough, having grown up barefoot in the desert where wild burros and rabbits were her best friends. She was committed; she never gave up on anything she believed in. We are sad she is gone, due to missing her and remembering so many great memories and stories. However, we are joyful to know she is no longer in any pain and in the loving arms of Jesus. Sandra was preceded in death by her sister, Lindsay; stepdad, Ray; mother, Barbara; and her husband, James. She is survived by her sister, Jean; niece, Barbie; nephew, Ray; son, Joe (Kim); granddaughter, Amy (Kenny); grandsons, Chris (Katie), Joseph (Chaz), Craig (Katie); and 12 great-grandchildren. There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, June 21 from 12 – 1:30 p.m. at the Aguila Community Bible Church. See Also: Find A Grave |
