Published by Yuma Sun on Jul. 6, 2025 - Yuma, Arizona - Harold "Bud " E. Avery, age 92, of Grand Island formerly of Henderson, NV, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at The Heritage at Sagewood. Bud's wishes were for cremation and a family Celebration of Life and inurnment will be held at a later date in Yuma, AZ. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences can be left at www.giallfaiths.com Bud was born on January 2, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio to Harry and Nellie (Moore) Avery. He attended school in Willoughby, Ohio. Graduating at North High School in Willoughby, Bud played varsity football all four years and started as a freshman. Growing up, Bud worked many odd jobs to help his mom make ends meet. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952. During the Korean Conflict, he served on the USS Missouri BB-63. He was honorably discharged in 1956. On December 17, 1955, Bud was united in marriage to Cecilia Ungers. To this union five children were born. The family lived in Norfolk, VA and Painesville, Ohio until 1957 when they moved to Yuma, AZ. In his early years he worked as a mechanic and throughout his life continued doing auto body work. For several years he served as a Police Officer in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. When the family moved to Yuma, he joined the Yuma Police Department and was employed there for 31 years before he and Cecilia retired to Overggard, AZ where they lived for 8 years. They moved to Henderson, NV where they remained until Cecilia's passing in 2021. Bud then moved to Grand Island, NE, and lived with his daughter, Diana and SIL, Larry until he moved in February 2025 to The Heritage at Sagewood in Grand Island. Bud was a member of The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), and the American Legion. In his free time, he enjoyed boating, camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed going out for a great meal and trying new restaurants. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Diana (Larry) Rudolf of Grand Island, Cheryl Reinert (Jon Green) of Yuma, AZ, and Jeffrey (Laura) Avery of Las Vegas, NV.
