Juanita "Nita" Marie Silbernagel Johnson, age 87, a long-term Fort
Mohave, Arizona resident, died Friday, June 20, 2025 at Valley View
Hospital in Fort Mojave. Nita was born in August 26, 1937 in Crofte,
Burleigh County, North Dakota, one of nine children of Adam and Magdalen
Schmidt Silbernagel, who owned a grain farm.

Nita graduated with honors from Bismark High School in 1955 and from the
Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Grand Forks, North Dakota in
1958. She became a Registered Nurse and enlisted in the United States
Army in her 20s, serving in the Army's hospitals with the rank of Second
Lieutenant. There she met a young corporal, Sidney Marshall Johnson, who
was a corpsman. They were quite fond of each other and were married at
Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1959.

Nita worked to put Sid through college and helped him with his medical
studies. They lived in various cities during their marriage, including
New Orleans, where Sid graduated from Tulane University Medical School
and completed his residency in surgery.

They moved to Ventura County, California in the mid-1970s, first to
Oxnard Shores and then the Ventura Keys. There they raised their five
children and were active members of the Ventura Yacht Club and the
Pierpont Bay Yacht Club, with their sailboats, Firelock and Firelock II.
When their marriage ended in 1984, she found employment as an R.N. in
the San Jose area, later moving to San Diego, and, eventually, to the
desert. She served as a visiting nurse in Mohave County, primarily
assisting seniors, for many years.

She is survived by her sons, Brand (Erin)Johnson of Ventura, California
and Puerto Escondido, Mexico, Lance H. (Lisa) Johnson of Chula Vista,
California, and Kayle of San Diego, California; and by her daughters,
Shelby Johnson, of Prescott, Arizona, Mara Johnson of Fort Mohave,
Arizona; and by numerous grandchildren.

Memorial services will be private. Memorial donations in her name may be
made to a favorite charity.
