She was born in Yuma, AZ but grew up in both Yuma, AZ and San Diego, CA. She went to school at Roosevelt and Mary Post Elementary and 4th Ave Jr. High Schools. She spent the majority of her life in San Diego, CA. She was a social person and enjoyed entertaining her friends. She cared for her extended families and was proud of her Escalanti, Jose and Murphy roots. She liked to read and watch cooking shows. She was a great cook. She is preceded in death by her father, Erwin Escalanti; mother, Gwendolyn Murphy; paternal brother, Erwin Escalanti Jr., and paternal sister, Rose Moreno Phipps. She is survived by her partner, Ricardo Montalvano; children, Rebecca and Michael Nguyen, Lana Vo, Joseph Miramontez and 5 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hank Murphy, Ira Murphy, Ernesto Moreno, Daniel Murphy, Wendell Jose, Levi Jose, Virgil Murphy, Eric Murphy, James Montage, Melvin Miguel, Francisco Aguilar, Manuel Ayon, Stan Barley, Larry Hammond, Mike Martinez and Jamie Labrake. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 16th, 2025 at the Yuma Mortuary, public viewing will be 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Traditional Rites to follow at 5:00 pm and end at 5:00 am at the Quechan Big House. The family would like to thank the Quechan Tribe, Virgil Smith, Sophia Perez, Norman Osbourne and the crew for their help with arrangements.
