Joan Eileen (Ormsby) Cook

Joan Eileen Cook passed away on July 11, 2025, four days before her 90th
birthday. Joan was born on July 15, 1935 in McGregor, Iowa to Emelia
Marie Peterson Ormsby and Thomas William Ormsby. She graduated from
Kingman High in 1952 when she was 16, receiving a scholarship to a
design school in Los Angeles. Instead she chose to marry her high school
sweetheart, Stanford "Joe" Cook. Together they had six children. Joan
earned her pilot's license at the age of 50 and flew Search and Rescue
(SAR) for Mohave County, Kingman SAR Unit for many years before moving
to Avondale, Arizona to be near some of her many grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her sister, Judith Wells of Idaho, daughter, Vicky
Cook Shiya, sons, Michael Cook (Leslie), Brian Cook, and Neil Cook and
many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by
her husband, Stanford "Joe" Cook, daughter Theresa Cook and son
Christopher Cook.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 25, noon at St.
Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W, Thomas Rd, Avondale, AZ. A
viewing is also scheduled on that Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at
Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S Litchfield Rd, Goodyear, AZ.
