John Aaron Avelsgaard

John Aaron Avelsgaard of Lake Havasu City AZ died Monday August 4, 2025.

We was born May 22, 1950, to Aaron and Ruth (Olson) Avelgaard in
Crookston MN.

He attended school in Crookston and graduated from the Northwest School
of Agriculture.

He married his sweetheart, Marie Dubuque in 1970. They had two children,
Jeff and Janelle.

John started his long career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad
in 1970 as a clerk in Grand Forks ND. Later becoming a brakeman, and in
1976, achieving his childhood dream of becoming a Locomotive Engineer.
He was working out of Dilworth MN. John and Marie made their home and
raised their children in Fargo ND.

John was a proud member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the
Elks, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Shiloh Masonic Lodge #1 and El
Zagel Shrine Temple in Fargo ND.

In 1997 John received a transfer to Grand Junction CO, at which time he
and Marie relocated. He later retired in 2002.

John vacationed in Lake Havasu City AZ for many years, and recently made
it his home in 2024.

He enjoyed many outdoor activities including four wheeling in the
mountains, hunting elk in Colorado, trips to South Dakota, Wyoming, and
Montana, but his favorite place to hunt was Fort Ransom ND where he made
many lifelong friends and memories.

John is survived by son Jeff (Deb Anderson) Fargo ND, daughter Janelle
(Ed) Migut his pride and joy granddaughter, Madeleine Avelsgaard Migut
of Batavia IL. Sisters Sharon (Bill) Bursch, Carolyn Evans, brother Jay
(Theresa) Avelsgaard. He is preceded in death by his parents and
brother-in-law Richard Evans.

A private gathering will be held in Fargo ND.
