Driver dies from injuries sustained in one-car roll over on highway 93

A 28-year-old Kansas man was killed in a one-car accident 31 miles north
of Wickenburg on U.S. Highway 93 on April 3 after the vehicle he was
driving crossed over the center line and left the roadway overturning
and ejecting the driver.

William G. Chase Jr. died from head and and upper body injuries he
sustained in the accident at St. Joseph's Hospital at approximately
10::15 a.m., April 4, reported Wickenburg Department of Safety Officer
Chris Mueller.

Mueller said Arizona Department of Transportation highway department
employees from the Santa Maria yard witnessed the accident and alerted
emergency personnel out of Wickenburg and Bagdad.

The officer's report estimated the accident occurred at 3:05 p.m. while
Chase was traveling in the Northbound lane with no indications of
excessive speed.

He reported the driver apparently allowed the vehicle to cross over the
Southbound land and leave the roadway on the West side traveling in the
dirt shoulder. The vehicle apparently rotated 90 degrees, overturned and
slid on its roof for approximately 42 feet before it turned back over
and ejected Chase, the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Mueller reported that the driver was transported to Wickenburg Community
Hospital by the Bagdad Ambulance and airlifted to Phoenix's St. Joseph's
Hospital in the DPS Ranger helicopter.

The preliminary investigation, Mueller said, indicates the accident may
have been alcohol related and that the driver was not wearing a seat
belt at the time of the accident. The investigation is continuing.
