Mrs. Smith, 83, Succumbs To Stroke Tuesday Mrs. Nancy Smith, 83, of Okemah, died in a local hospital following a stroke last Tuesday. She had been ill for sometime, but was up daily until the day she died. Mrs. Smith came to Arizona in 1924, from Louisiana to McNary, Ariz., and then to Phoenix, in 1933. She was a great church organizer. Smith’s Chapel A.M.E. Church in Okemah was named for her. She is survived by her husband, C. S. Smith; two daughters, Mrs, Gustavia Pinkney, Alamagorda, N.M„ and Mrs. Ocie Mae Curry, who is living in Alaska. Two sons, John and Roosevelt of Las Vegas, Nev., and Oakland, Calif, respectively; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services are pending the arrival of relatives. Ragsdale’s Mortuary is in charge. Arizona Sun August 1, 1952 |
