Harold William Bishop

Harold William Bishop was born in Seattle, Washington, Dec. 11, 1911, and died in Mesa, Arizona, Aug. 21, 2002, in the Golden Age Care Center.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; six children, Hal, Kathryn, Gayle, John, Bob and Rick; sister, Helen Herbage; 23 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Mining Engineering and had over 40 years’ experience in both underground and open pit mining activity.

He was employed by the Ray Mines Division of Kennecott Copper Corporation for 21 years. Earlier in his career he worked for Consolidated Copper Mines in Nevada for 17 years. At both places he was Chief Mines Plant and Chief Engineer largely responsible for the development and operating of each companies’ first surface mining endeavors.

After his retirement he worked as a consultant in planning and development of mines (open pit).

He was an avid hunter and fisherman most of his life and golf, woodworking and travel were his retirement enjoyments.

His children and grand children remember fondly his many stories and poems told and recited often. He leaves a great heritage and many fond memories.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Kearny.
