Apolonia "Paula" S. Tapia, 66, passed away Aug. 27, 2002, in Mesa. She was born in Hanover, New Mexico, on April 10, 1936. Ms. Tapia lived in Superior for 53 years and was a United States postal worker for 20 years. She was more concerned about others than she was herself. As a community-involved worker, she helped with the St. Francis Fiestas and various lunches. She also lent her talent to the choir at St. Francis. In the 1950s and 1960s, Ms. Tapia was a member of a local women’s club. A daughter, Patricia Ann McDaniel, and two brothers, Felipe and Manuel Tapia, preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Joni Escobedo of Chandler, Geraldine (Joe) Gonzales of Mesa and Linda Julie (Raymond) Ybarra of Tucson; sisters, Ernestine (Gildardo) Villegas of Superior and Mary Reynoso of Mammoth; and six grandchildren. Services for Ms. Tapia were held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Saturday, Aug. 31. A Rosary was recited for her followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Fr. Augustine Kattady. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery. The Superior Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Published 09/03/02 The Superior Sun |
