R. G. RICHARDS DIES FOLLOWING BRIEF ILLNESS Manager Of Nogales Laundry Victim Of Influenza Funeral services for the late R. G. Richards (Ralph) will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the Episcopal church, Rev. J. L. Patten officiating. The remains will be sent to Phoenix on the 3:55 train this afternoon. Following a very brief illness, R. G. Richards, 55, manager of the Nogales Steam Laundry, died at 4:30 o’clock Monday morning at his home, 523 Crawford street. Mr. Richards’ death, which came as a great shock to his host of friends, was a result of influenza. He had keen feeling badly since Tuesday but was downtown at his office as late as 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon. His condition became critical at 9 o'clock Sunday night. The deceased was a native of Missouri and had been a resident of Nogales since June 1927. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, students at the State Teacher’s College at Tempe. Miss Monte Richards was at the bedside of her father when death called and Miss Janet Richards arrived here Monday morning from Tempe shortly after receiving the sad news. Mr. Richards was a Spanish-American war veteran a member of both the Nogales Elks and Masonic lodges and a man who quickly made friends, all of whom are deeply grieved over his untimely passing. He was a member of the large class initiated by the Elks shortly after dedication of their beautiful new building here last spring. He was an enthusiastic bowler and by scoring 290 on the Elk alleys on August 23 of last year he made the highest score ever made in bowling in this city. Prior to that time he had scored 275 which was the highest ever made on the old Aztec alleys on Morley avenue. During the bowling tournament, which closes Friday night at the Elks club, he was captain of the Strikers, one of the leading teams in the tourney. Nogales International January 20, 1932 |
