Bernie was the surviving son of four siblings born in Montreal, Quebec. One of Bernie’s favorite pastimes was playing hockey. Growing up Bernie was a big Montreal Canadians fan and attended several hockey games at The Forum in Montreal. In April of 1958, Bernie joined the Canadian Army. He became a paratrooper and a physical training instructor before being “Honorably Released”, in April of 1961. Right after being released from the Army, he started his career as a utility lineman for Quebec Hydro. In June of 1963, Bernie married Mireille “Gabrielle” St Jean. Bernie was a devoted husband for 45 yrs. He became the proud father to his first son Steve in 1964 and again in 1966 to Robert. In 1967, Bernie and the family moved to Detroit, Michigan continuing his career with Harlan Electrical. In August 1970, Bernie and the family moved once again to sunny Southern California where he worked at Southern California Edison until his retirement in 1997. Bernie was a very active individual. He started a boot camp in Wrightwood CA. After his wife Gabrielle’s passing in 2008 Bernie went back to work for the electrical contractors for a few more years. When he decided to retire again, he also decided to move to Lake Havasu City. Bernie had a deep, strong faith and attended church every Sunday at Our Lady of the Lake. Bernie also loved working out at the gym, everyone knew him there. He had a sharp wit, feisty personality and was full of life! He had an "energy" about him. Everyone "took" to him. He was always positive and brightened up a room with his personality and big smile. He loved to laugh, but especially enjoyed making other people laugh. Even up until the end. Bernie was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by everyone, but never forgotten. Bernie’s wish was to be cremated. There will be a Celebration of Life Services held at Our Lady of the Lake: Wednesday 28th, 2024 10:00 a.m. 1975 Daytona Drive Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403. The family would like to thank all of Bernie’s friends that contributed to, and or impacted his life and well-being. |
