Kathleen A. Hergt

Kathleen A. Hergt, 87, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on July 18, 2008 following an extended illness. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 10, 1921 and moved to the Valley in 1953.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Indiana State University and her Master's degree in vocal performance from Northwestern University. She taught high school choral music in public schools in Indiana and in Phoenix, was a well known soprano soloist in the Valley in the 1950's and 60's, served as a church soloist in several churches, and was the choir director at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Phoenix for 41 years.

Over a period of 65 years she taught private voice to over 300 students. Through her teaching she enriched the lives of her many students. She will be dearly remembered and greatly missed. A celebration of her life is being planned by her family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014 in memory of Kathleen A. Hergt.
