| Vet Drowns In Canal After Army Service Justice Harry E. Westfall, ex officio coroner, said Friday that no inquest will be necessary in the death of Leo Moreno, 19, army veteran, who drowned Thursday afternoon in the Grand Canal at Lateral 14 and Avenue J, while swimming with his brother, Oscar 18, and a group of friends. Leo Pendergast and Allee Haywood, sheriff’s deputies, found Moreno’s body at 8 p. m., four hours after the youth dived into the canal and disappeared. Moreno lived with his father at Lateral 14 and Maricopa Road. He was released from the army 60 days ago. Westside Enterprise Tolleson, AZ August 10, 1945 |
