Iola Valera (Lloyd) Martin

Iola Valera Lloyd Martin, resident of Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away at her home Friday, Aug. 30, 2002.

She was born in Austin, Texas, March 16, 1917 and was brought to Arizona as a very young infant. In 1935 she married Frederick W. Martin and they lived in Bisbee, Globe and Tiger over the course of 36 years before they and their children became one of the first families to settle in San Manuel in 1953.

In 1989 they moved to Kachina Village in Flagstaff residing there for 13 years until their subsequent deaths. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in 1993.

She ran a successful business, Ila’s Flower Shop, for 25 years and gave entirely of herself when it came to pleasing her community with the elegant touch of her talent. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her sister, Harriett Windsor of Mule Creek, New Mexico; five children, Joyce Kempton of Flagstaff, Fred Martin Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jack Martin of Tucson, Mike Martin of Elko, Nevada, and Kathy Mendibles of Flagstaff; 26 grandchildren, 17 great grand children, two great great grandchildren, and many, many nephews, nieces and friends.

Funeral services here held Friday, Sept. 6, at the L.D.S. Tucson North Stake Center. Viewing for close family and friends was held prior to the service at the Relief Society Room. Interment was at the L.D.S. Pioneer Cemetery in Tucson.

Arrangements were entrusted to Griffith Mortuary.
