Melvin Douglas Walker, 63, died August 11, 2002, at his home in Lakeside. He was born March 10, 1939, in the Pinal General Hospital in Florence and was raised in Superior where he graduated from Superior High School in 1957. He was employed by the State Highway Department in Superior and worked at the Kennicott Copper Company prior to moving to Lakeside where he operated the Tri-City Cab Company. Mr. Walker was an avid reader. He loved music and played saxophone and clarinet. He was a gourmet cook and collected cookbooks from all over the world. He is survived by his mother, Gladys M. Walker of Superior; three uncles, Walter C. "Jiggs" Jeffrey and William G. "Bill" Jeffrey, both of Superior, and Albert L. Jeffrey of Queen Valley; and 10 cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Francis R. Walker, a son, Anthony, and his father, Barney Walker. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Superior at a later date.
