Mary Agnes Echenique

Mary Agnes Echenique, daughter of Frank and Serapia Echenique, born in Flagstaff, died Tuesday (June 13, 2006).

Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt, she was devoted to her family. She is survived by her sister, Alice O'Malley, brother, Frank Echenique and 11 nieces and nephews.

Mary spent her life in service to the youth of Phoenix at St. Mary's High School. For over 40 years she served as Dean, Coach, Educator and Mentor. She was a graduate of Arizona State University and a lover of the Democratic Party. Winner of numerous awards for her teaching and service and a member of the St. Mary's High School Hall of Fame, she will be missed by the many who benefited from her knowledge, wisdom and counsel.

Visitation Saturday, June 17, 2006 at St. Mary's Basilica, 231 N. 3rd St., Phoenix. A Funeral Mass was held at 9:00 AM at the church. Interment followed at St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, Arizona 85014. Published in The Arizona Republic on 6/16/2006.
