Lissa (Elizabeth Marie) Wales - Our beloved Lissa, daughter of Dorothy and the late Harold Wales, entered this world on July 27, 1957 and slipped into His loving arms on October 1, 2005 after an eighteen month battle with acute myelogenous Leukemia. She graduated from ASU with a BA degree in Communications and became a world famous photographer of drummers. She graced our lives with her spirit of love and generosity and touched the lives of untold hundreds, helping myriads of budding musicians on their way to stardom. Her talent as a photographer was remembered in a beautiful outpouring of love and generosity on September 10, 2005 when a concert of "Musicians for Lissa" was held to assist her financially and to inspire her. Her love for the Phoenix Open golf tournament sponsored by the Phoenix Thunderbirds was expressed by years of capturing this event on film and these friends have likewise remembered her. She was an example of courage to all and particularly to other Leukemia patients and their families, and to the outstanding nursing staff at Good Samaritan Hospital and Scottsdale Healthcare North. In addition, her photographic talent was matched by her culinary talents presiding over food and equipment demonstrations and finally, her artistic creativity in the world of stitchery, teaching classes and leaving us a beautiful collection of her skills. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy, her sister, Mary Wales Long, and her nephew, Andrew Webster Wales, brother-in-law Randy Long, aunts, uncles and cousins and her beloved dog "Josephina". A visitation was held with a Rosary service on Friday evening, October 7th, at St. Maria Goretti Church, 6261 N. Granite Reef Rd., Scottsdale. A Requiem Mass was said at St. Maria Goretti Church on Saturday, October 8th. Arrangements entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Published in The Arizona Republic on 10/5/2005.
