Posted 2009-07-04 by Pat Wilson
Gerald Burton Boycks (Gerry), was born June 14, 1927 in Stevens Point Wisconsin, son of Edward and Leila Boycks.

He attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Arizona State University with honors in accounting. He served in the U.S Navy and the U.S. Air Force.

His career spanned 35 years with Thomas J. Lipton Inc. retiring as Executive Vice President before forming Lipton Sports Inc. in order to represent Lipton in the tournament that became known simply as "The Lipton", (now the Nasdaq 100). He was instrumental in forming the
partnership between Lipton and Dade county, and in building one of the best tennis stadiums and tournaments in the world. He served as President of Lipton Sports from the inception of the tournament in 1985 until his retirement in 1998. He remains Honorary Chairman. He loved this tournament and the people involved with all his heart. In March 2001 he was inducted into the Lipton Tournament Hall of Fame with Chris Evert.

Predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years Arna Mae (Cooper), he is survived by his sister Marilyn, Daughter Debra, his two sons Richard and Kelly, four granddaughters, two grandsons, and five great-grandsons.

He has divided his time between Scottsdale Arizona, his wife's hometown, and Flagstaff Arizona, where as newlyweds he and his bride first honeymooned forty-five years ago this week. He will be warmly remembered and sorely missed.

Donations may be made to the Scottsdale Historical Society. Funeral Services were Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at Messinger Mortuary Chapel, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
