Eric R. Lewis, 44, of Mesa, Arizona left this world for God's heavenly kingdom on Sunday December 8, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer.

How can you summarize a life so special in only a few paragraphs? It would take volumes to remember such a wonderful husband, father, son, and friend.

Eric was born in Cheyenne Wyoming. His wife of 17 years, Julie and his three wonderful boys Taylor, Cameron and Spencer will miss Eric beyond words. Eric was foremost a devoted and loving father who put his family first above all things. The empty space he leaves behind can only be partially filled with the memories of his love and devotion. Eric was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was generous, intelligent, unselfish and willing to drop everything to help a friend. If anything was broken, Eric could fix it. He was a Jack of all trades, mechanic, electrician, plumber, maintenance man, counselor, appliance repairman, and more; there wasn't a job he couldn't do well. He will be missed! What will we do without him?

A graduate from Arizona State University, Eric worked at Arizona Department of Environmental Quality for the last 10 years. Most recently as an Emergency Response Specialist. He loved his job and took pride in continuing his education in areas of Hazardous Materials Management, Weapons of Mass Destruction, Hazardous Materials Operations and Transportation, and Clandestine Drug Labs. Eric was also a member of the State of Arizona Domestic Terrorism Task Force.

As important as his job was, he is best remembered for his dedication to family. He coached basketball, was a Scoutmaster, volunteered at church, and set an example of what a father should be. He was quiet, never expecting anything in return. He was a true inspiration to those that knew him. During his 19-month battle with cancer, he touched the lives of many. His attitude remained positive as he struggled with pain and sickness. He fought with every ounce of courage to beat the terrible disease that was stealing his life. He endured so much just for the opportunity to live longer and spend more time with his wife and boys. It all comes down to love; it's what life is about. Eric knew that, and he lived his life that way. He will be deeply missed forever.

He is survived by the love of his life Julie, three sons, Taylor, Cameron and Spencer, his parents, Dick and Marian Lewis, brother, David Lewis, in-laws Harry & Judy Sehulster, John & Wendy DeBevoise, niece Stephanie, nephew Nicholas, and numerous other family and friends.

Bye Eric, we love you. We'll see you in heaven. A funeral mass was held Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1551 East Dana, Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Eric Lewis Children's College Fund at Bank of America account number 004674697599. Arrangements Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park.
