Dec. 5, 1973 - June 9, 2009

Andrew Wesley Long, beloved son and brother, and a proud brother of the Gamma Iota chapter of the Theta Xi fraternity, passed away on June 9, 2009. Andy is remembered by his family and friends as a playful, gentle, and creative man who was generous in every aspect of his life.

During his life, Andy's caring and creative nature was expressed in the activities he loved the most. Growing up in San Diego with his parents, two brothers and his sister, he learned a deep appreciation for family, friends and the beauty to be found in nature. After graduating from High School and serving several years in the U.S. Army Reserves, he studied engineering at Embry-Riddle University in Prescott, Ariz. and started his own computer services business. Continuing a tradition of camping and outdoor activities he first experienced as a child during family vacations, he would often take family and friends on camping trips into the Arizona Mountains that he loved. Andy often showed his affection through his good-natured pranks that were both funny and creative, and he always seemed to have time to help out others in times of need. Andy's many nieces and nephews will always remember that he became their friend, as Andy showed sincere love and care for each one of them. Above all else, Andy was a generous man who deeply cared for his family and friends, and he is missed by everyone who knew him and whose lives he touched.

Andy is survived by his mother; father; two brothers and sister; and his cat that he adored.

There will be a Memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego.

In lieu of flowers, his family hopes that those offering condolences will consider making a donation in his name to Father Joe's Village, 3350 E. St. San Diego, Calif., 92102-3332 or 619-446-2100.
