Camp Verde Bugle, Camp Verde, Arizona Saturday, June 27, 2009 George F. Payne, 77, of Camp Verde died June 24 in his home. He was born December 11, 1931 in Phoenix on the family farm, the son of Leonard and Louise Payne. George was a graduate of Glendale High School and served his country in the Air Force. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Caterpillar Proving Ground and for C. J. McDonald. George was a 20 year member of the Camp Verde Calvary and a thirty year member of the Camp Verde Lions Club where he held many positions from club President to Region Chairman for the clubs of the Verde Valley. He was also a member of the American Legion. He attended the Southern Baptist Church. An avid horseman, he loved showing his national showhorse Restless Spirit and his miniature horses Oasis Sunburst and Marystown Supreme Dream. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donny. George leaves his wife, Patsy; son Mark Payne of Camp Verde; grandsons Adam and Micah of Louisiana; and brother Carl Payne (Betty) of Dewey. A visitation will be held Monday, June 29 in the Westcott Funeral Home from 9-10 AM followed by a funeral service at 10 AM. Burial will be Tuesday, June 30 in Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale at 10 AM with military honors Information provided by survivors. |
