Dorothy (Hocking) Picot

Dorothy "Dott" Picot, 54, passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, in Mesa, Ariz., after a long battle with cancer. Born Dorothy Ann Hocking on June 17, 1953, she grew up in Rockford and graduated from Auburn High School in 1971.

She was employed at the Rockford Post Office for 26 years until she retired in 2005 and later moved to Arizona.

Dorothy's strength and courage while fighting her illness inspired everyone she knew.

Her greatest loves in life were family and travel, and she managed to take great pleasure in both until the very end, despite her struggle. Her memory will be cherished, and she will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her father and stepmother, Paul and Eleanor Hocking of Dixon; sons, John Paul "J.P." (Adriana) Picot of Belvidere, Chris (Lily) Picot of Rockford; sisters, Deborah (Gregg) Voiles of Loves Park, Cathy (John) Plomos of Rockford, Lorri (Ralph) Barnes of Mesa, Michelle (Marc) Washington of Machesney Park, Jennifer (Brent) Morgan of Steward and Linda Worthen of California; brother, Ralph "Deacon" Hall of Rockford; six grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Sebastian.

Predeceased by mother, Audrey Hall; stepfather, Ralph Hall; and sister, Tina Brunelle.

All who knew Dorothy are invited to celebrate her life from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, in the Hoffman House, Geneva Room, 7550 E. State St. Donations to the American Cancer Society, (cancer.org) in Dorothy's honor would be greatly appreciated.
