Born in Patrick County, Virginia on Oct. 19, 1921.
Departed on March 19, 2003 and resided in Cottonwood, Arizona.

Leonard E. Fain, 81, of Cottonwood passed away at home March 13 surrounded by his family.

Leonard was a hero to all who knew him. He was a decorated Army veteran of 24 plus years who had served in several World War II campaigns both in North Africa and Europe receiving a bronze star, an Army commendation medal and a purple heart. He also served during the Korean conflict. He saw active duty during the Vietnam engagement during Phase IV, V and VI as well as the TET Counteroffensive. He was awarded the RVN Gallantry Cross with silver star, Air Medal and Good Conduct medal-7th award.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Jean Fain; son Richard Fain; step-daughters, Karen Majercak and Barbara Bell; grandchildren, Michael and Steven Majercak and Brenda Hazlett; great-grandchildren Shanna Mitchell, Ryan Majercak, Sierra and Taylor Hazlett. He is also missed by his beloved Bichon, Mistee.

Interment with military honors will take place on Friday, March 28 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Road, Phoenix at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, Ariz., 86326 or to the American Cancer Society.
