The Wickenburg Sun the week of August 27, 2003

William (Bill) Patrick Maggs, 50, passed into the arms of our heavenly Father on Aug. 20, 2003 at 11:45 a.m. after a brave and heroic fight against cancer. Born Feb. 5, 1953 in Pittsburgh, Pa. to Joseph R. Maggs Sr. and Alice M. Maggs, he was a former resident of Chicago, Ill. Bill called Arizona home for the past 15 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his infant son Shawn Patrick Maggs, father Joseph R. Maggs Sr. and his nephew DJ Maggs.

Bill is survived by his best friend and wife Mary Maggs; his daughters Rachel and Angie (in Germany); mother Alice M. Maggs; brothers Rusty Maggs (Darla); sisters Laura M. Maggs and Mary Jo Soto (Joe); many beloved nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and nephews, as well as many cherished friends.

Always the optimist, he died filled with hope and love for those who survive him. Bill loved to go four wheeling in the desert, listen to music, play his guitar, dance, shoot pool, sing karaoke and hit the casinos once in a while. He had a talent for making friends wherever he went. He was funny, easygoing and accepting and had a great sense of humor. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and uncle.

You fought so very hard to win your battle by staying optimistic and hopeful, never once complaining, but God had other plans for you. You will never be forgotten. Thank you for all the wonderful memories that I know will always make us smile. We won't say goodbye, just that we'll see you on the other side.

Services were held at the Good Shepherd of the Desert in Congress on Aug. 23.

Frey Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
