The Wickenburg Sun the week of September 10, 2003 Howard DeLoss LaMar, well known as Deacon, 85, of Congress Junction passed away Sept. 5, 2003 at the Veterans Healthcare Facility-Whipple in Prescott, Ariz. He was the son of C.H. and Ila LaMar. He came to Morristown, Ariz. in 1923 where he grew up and graduated from Wickenburg High School. In his lifetime he followed several lines of work, from semi trucking to self employed carpenter. He once ran a caf in Long Beach, Calif., then settled a number of years ago in Congress operating the Sierra Vista Motel with his wife Evaline who preceded him in death. He recently sold the motel due to ill health. He was a veteran of World War II, receiving the Good Conduct and Victory medals, and received an honorable discharge after three years as a medical clerk, N.C.O. technician 3rd class. He went in on the invasion of North Africa and spent his service time there in Egypt. His generosity and willingness to help others will be his legacy and he will forever be missed by his remaining family. He is survived by brothers Clyde and wife Ruby LaMar of Goodyear, Dwight and wife Marie LaMar of Winslow; sisters Ena and Erwin McGuire of Morristown, Ila Mae and John Sutherlin of Glendale, Beverlee LaMar of Phoenix; numerous nieces and nephews. The American Legion will be in charge of the service at the interment at the family plot in Morristown Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. Cremation and handling by the Ruffner-Wakelin Mortuary in Prescott.
