THE WICKENBURG SUN THE WEEK OF July 30, 2003 Millie Elizabeth Pender of Aguila, Ariz. passed away on July 28, 2003 quietly in her home. Millie was born in Humboldt, Ariz. on Dec. 19, 1916. She was a member of the first ASU women's basketball team. She moved to New York City where she became a clothing designer and seamstress. She was a nurse at Wickenburg and Boswell hospitals. She also owned and operated a gas station in Congress, Ariz. She was instrumental in building the Aguila Community Center and was a librarian for the Aguila School. She worked for Maricopa County Parks and Recreation for several years. She retired from the nursing staff at the Wickenburg Community Hospital. She is survived by her son Otis Fritz Pender of Tempe, Ariz. and daughter Sue Marie Williams of Tucson, Ariz. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Loche Williams of Bagdad, Ariz. Millie was known for her loving kindness and tenacious community spirit. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Frey Funeral Home, 980 N. Tegner St. in Wickenburg. Pastor Dan Carlson will officiate. |
