Georgina (Jo) Franklin, 84, of Mesa passed away on July 21, 2008. She was born Jan. 12, 1924 in Heward, Saskatchewan, Canada and moved to Phoenix in 1965 from Ontario, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Wesley.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda McMorine (Tom) of Happy Jack and Rose Barringer of Fountain Hills; four sons, Brian (Kay) of Mesa and Lawrence (Marlene), Allan (Lynda) and Paul (Sheila) all of Ontario, Canada.

She was initiated to hard work at an early age when her mother died leaving six children. Some of her brothers and sisters were adopted and some were put in an orphanage. Being the oldest child, she was sent to live with a local family where she put herself through school.

She loved adventure and learning new things. She went on her first hot air balloon ride at the age of 77, and soared on a glider plane on her 80th birthday. She was an avid dog lover, golf and Diamondbacks fan.

She loved reading books and her morning newspaper. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, at PERA Club, 1 East Continental Drive, Tempe. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Arizona Human Society.

Fountain Hills times July 30, 2008.
