Russell D. Lewis, 72, died June 11, 2003 in Morristown, Ariz. Mr. Lewis was born Sept. 27, 1930 in Newark, N.J. He was a former police officer and truck driver.

Mr. Lewis was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran. He was a member of the Hassayampa Masonic Lodge No. 37 and the Order of the Eastern Star Hassayampa Chapter No. 35, both in Wickenburg, Ariz. He was also a member of the First Air Squad, Fire Department and the Elks Lodge, all in Bayville, N.J.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, of Morristown, Ariz.; children Russell (Mary) Lewis of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Lewis of Tuckerton, N.J., James (Angela) Lewis of Stony Creek, Va., Susan Lewis of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., Patti (Jerry) Cerez of Bayville, N.J., Peggy (Rick) Casagrand of Bayville, N.J., and Lillian Lewis of Bayville, N.J.; sister Eileen Kropki of Rahway, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Russell L. and Lillian (Fitzgerald) Lewis.

Visitation was Monday June 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home. Service was Monday, June 16 at 2 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home. Graveside services, with full military honors, was planned for Tuesday June 17 at 11 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

Contributions may be made in Mr. Lewis' name to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.

The family of Mr. Lewis would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the care and concern shown by the nurses on the LSU Unit Ward 4C of the Veterans Administration Hospital, Hospice of the Valley and Dr. Rebecca Hawkins.
