Pauline (Cozby) Hayes - Foster

Posted 2009-07-12 by Sharla
THE WICKENBURG SUN THE WEEK OF JUNE 4, 2003

Pauline (Hayes) Foster completed "a life well-lived" on May 31, 2003.

Pauline was born to Louis and Mimia Cozby on March 10, 1912 in De Leon, Texas. The family moved to New Mexico while Pauline was an infant.

Pauline married Lois (L.M.) Hayes on Dec. 22, 1929. They started a family in New Mexico and moved to Arizona in 1940. With the exception of a few months in California, Pauline would spend the balance of her life in Arizona, divided between Mayer, Bouse, Wenden, Salome, and her beloved Wickenburg.

Pauline and L.M. ran a contract mail route from Wickenburg to Needles, Calif. from 1954 to 1966. When that route was changed in 1966, they moved to Salome and ran a mail route form Salome to Blythe, Calif. until 1975. A lifetime of friends were made as they traveled the roads of rural Arizona.

Her family brought Pauline her greatest joy. She and L.M. were married more than 48 years, until his passing in August of 1978. In December of 1979, Pauline married Harry Foster and they had 15 years together until Harry's passing.

Pauline's faith was very important to her, and she was an active member in several different churches over the years.

Surviving family members include daughters, Sherill Olson of Cottonwood, Jackie Stanfill of Braggs, Okla., Jo Ann Holmes of Dowagiac, Mich., Martha Taylor (Buck) of Okanogan, Wash., and Debbie Gardner (Roy) of Wickenburg; sons, Louis Hayes (Janice) of Wickenburg, and Vernon Hayes of Bagdad. Other survivors include 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. All of the above is just the Hayes side of the ledger! Pauline is also survived by a large and loving extended family on the Foster side, including Marge Wellman (Lee) of Sun City, Virginia Brown (Bill) of Kingman, Dorothy Patterson (Mike) of Prescott, Charles Foster (Marcia) of Prescott, and Judy Simmons (Bill) of Wickenburg.

In addition to her husbands, daughters Mary Jane Winters of Congress, Mimia Montijo of Parker and grandson Charles Dandrea of Mayer preceded Pauline in death.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wickenburg Funeral Home.

Funeral services are to be held at the Mt. Hope Assembly of God Church in Wickenburg on Thursday June 5 at 9 a.m. with graveside services to follow at the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery.

Pastor Duane Middleton will officiate.

Funeral services are provided by Wickenburg Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Desert Winds Assisted Living Center and the wonderful folks at Hospice of Arizona.
