Mary Elinore Stewart Champie

Mary Elinore Stewart Champie was born Oct. 10, 1916 in Prescott, Ariz. to Clarence and Lola Stewart. Elinore was raised on a family cattle ranch, the Cross Triangle, in Williamson Valley, Ariz. She attended Sacred Heart and Prescott High School.

Elinore and Lawton married at a rodeo in Globe, Ariz. Aug. 24, 1937. They were owners of the LC Ranch in Castle Hot Springs until 1975.

Left to carry on the tradition are brother, Bill Stewart; daughter, Ibbie Champie; grandson Lawton Cavalliere; granddaughters Connie Jensen, Codee Blunk and eight great-grandchildren.

Elinore was a member of the Arizona Cattle Growers, Yavapai County Cattle Growers, Yavapai Cow Bells, and a charter member of the Lady Elks in Wickenburg.

Jan. 11, 2003, Elinore moved up to a higher pasture to ride with Lawton, family and friends.

A service will be held Jan. 18, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Menke Funeral Home in Sun City at 12420 N. 103 Ave.
