The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, July 11, 2009 Dillard Allen, born Oct. 1, 1927, in Mena, Ark., left us on July 8, 2009. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris. He is survived by his sons Kevin Allen of Lavaca, Ark., Dwain Allen of San Marcos, Calif., and Randall Allen of Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Dillard proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He settled in Buckeye, Ariz., working at APS as a heavy gas engine mechanic, retiring as a fuel analyst in 1982. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Retirement years were spent in Chino Valley, Ariz., "puttering" in his garage building on items that you could call the "beginning of modern marvels." He also spent his retirement gardening and he was an avid Western reader and movie viewer. His passions included hunting, fishing, and camping; however, his enjoyment of family visits and get-togethers were his fulfilling moments. He will be remembered by family and friends as a kind-hearted man, never contributing opinions unless requested. His shoes will be impossible to fill, as will his place in all of our hearts. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Chino Valley Cemetery in Chino Valley, Ariz. Arrangements were made by Hampton Funeral Home.
