Dorothy Jean Mason Loffler, age 91, died peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2009, from a sudden illness. Born Oct. 5, 1917, in Blytheville, Ark., to Frank and Ruth Mason, she spent her youth living in Illinois and Colorado.

Dorothy married Robert Arthur Loffler on June 26, 1940 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Upon their marriage, they moved to West Los Angeles, where a U.S. Postal Service job beckoned. Westdale, a West Los Angeles neighborhood, became their home for the next 39 years as they raised their three young daughters.

Two years after Bob retired in 1977, they moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., where they enjoyed their remaining years together. After 57 years of marriage, Bob died in 1997. In 2004 Dorothy chose to move to Prescott Valley, Ariz., to be near her daughter, Donna, and her family. She spent her last few years living at Granite Gate in Prescott.

Dorothy will always be remembered as an extremely caring, thoughtful lady who valued being a very conscientious wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. All who knew and loved her also will likely not forget her love of flowers, reading, crossword puzzles, classic country music, clouds, the color purple and See's chocolates.

She is survived by two daughters, Paula Yingst (Jim) of Roseburg, Ore., and Donna Flinders (Bob) of Prescott Valley. Dorothy is also survived by seven grandchildren, Greg Flinders (Debbie) of Portland, Ore., Jim Yingst of Salt Lake City, Stephanie Galloway (Steve) of Flagstaff, Allison Douglas (Stefan) of Denver, Heidi Tubbs (Bryan) of Prescott, Elizabeth Stull (Brian) of Scottsville, Va., and April Rinne of San Francisco; and 11 great-grandchildren, Luke, Ella, Max, Ryan, Brody, Amelia, Paul, Jack, Sean, Zach and Grey. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Bob Loffler, her daughter, Penny Rinne, her son-in-law, Roland Rinne, and her brother, Paul Mason.

Funeral arrangements are by Norvel Owens Mortuary. A small graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Citizens' Cemetery in Flagstaff. Memorial contributions may be made to The Smile Train, cleft lip/palate charity, 28th Floor, 41 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10010; or call 1-800-932-9541.

Her family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Granite Gate's caring staff, who made Dorothy feel special in her final home.
