Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Wednesday, February 28, 2024, p. A-6 James M. Irwin, age 79, died Feb. 21, 2024 in Clinton Township, Mich. He was born on Jan. 6, 1945 in Trinidad, Colo. to the late Catherine Irwin Fredrickson and James Irwin. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jim (Mac) Irwin is survived by his wife Kathy Irwin of 59 years; children, James Irwin Jr., Kevin (Allie) Irwin, Craig (Jean)Irwin; and eight grandchildren, Erin, Kelly, Jason, Catherine, Brenna, Alexis, Jack and Kyle. Jim grew up in Pueblo, Colo. where he met the love of his life Kathy. He first worked for Cadillac in 1963 and was eventually sponsored by them at GMI where he graduated. In 1970, he went to work at the Technical Service Research Group at the Warren Tech Center and eventually retired from the service Technology Group in 1999 as Director-Training Center Operations. Jim and Kathy raised their family in Michigan. As a family, they enjoyed traveling back home to Colorado to visit family and friends while staying at a family home in Rye, Colo. Jim was a car guy and his hobbies included building "Collector Cars," "Hot Rods" and "Street Rods." He dabbled with "Antique Car," but they were not his first love. Soon after retirement, Jim and Kathy bought a motor home to tour the country and built a house in Wickenburg to enjoy warmer weather and retired life. Unable to sit still, Jim and Kathy began volunteering at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. Jim was also a member of the Arizona GM Retiree Club where he was the club's staff record keeper. Everywhere that Jim was, he ran into someone he knew. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. |
