Ellen Lucy Crawford Moore
Ellen C. Moore, 92, a Prescott resident for almost 30 years, died Oct. 3, 2007, in Burtonsville, Md.
Ellen Lucy Crawford was born to Anna Phillipina Yent and Stillman Milo Crawford on Feb. 20, 1915, in Willoughby, Ohio. She became a voracious reader and read 250 books a year for many years.
She served as Executive Director of the Lake Country, Ohio, Child Wel fare Department. Later, she earned a master’s degree in sociology and became a college professor.
In 1971, Ellen left her home in Washington, D.C., to go camping around the country. She had been diagnosed with a breathing problem and didn’t know how many good years she had left. But, in her travels, she discovered Prescott and fell in love with the place.
Ellen was especially proud of her role in founding the Prescott Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
In 2002, Ellen moved to Silver Spring, Md., to live with her daughter, Meredith Higgins and son-in-law Thomas Hargrave. She is held in loving memory by Meredith and Tom, as well as her daughter, Connie Moore and husband Don Emmerling; three grandchildren; as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be noon Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the Prescott UU Fellowship.
