John Makar, 83, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2006 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was born on May 25, 1920 in Madera, PA.
John moved to Lake Havasu City, AZ., 24 years ago from Budd Lake, NJ. He worked as a foreman for Hoffman La Roche in Nutley, NJ., for 18 years.
As a child, John's family moved to Scanton, PA., where his father worked as a coal miner. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school. John served from 1938 to 1958, in WWII and Korea. He served most of the time in the Pacific, where he received 3 battle stars
John is survived by his three children from a previous marriage, John Jr., of Panama City, FL; Gailof GA; Steven of PA; nieces, Donna Makar of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Mary Lou Allberg of North Pole, AK; sister-in-law, Pauline Makar of Lake Havasu City, AZ; second cousins, Elizabeth Lopez and David Ennis both of Lake Havasu City, AZ; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Eva (Bahan) Makar, wife Dina of 24 years, who passed away on June 6, 2006, brother, Martin Makar and niece Carol Makar.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2006 at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be presented by the V.F.W. Post 9401 and American Legion Post 81.
Donations may be made in John's name to the V.F.W. Post 9401, 266 London Bridge Rd., Lake Havasu City, AZ., 86403.
Arrangements were entrusted to Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
