Karen Lenore Wendt White was born Aug 30, 1939,in Chicago, Illinois and was an only child. She departed life on March 11, 2006, after suffering from ALS for two years.
Karen graduated from Chicago's Luther High School and worked as a secretary until her marriage to Bob on April 30,1961. After marriage, she worked in real estate for three years and later in retail for Lord and Taylor, Weiboldts, and J.C. Penney.
In 1992 Karen and Bob moved from Glenview, Illinois to Prescott, where she was a member of American Evangelical Lutheran Church. She served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of W-ELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America) and also as a liaison between the women's groups at the church. As President of W-ELCA, Karen helped to develop a literacy outreach program groups and served as a leader of Deborah Circle at the church. She loved her church and her church family.
Karen always wanted to make a difference in the lives of others - and the example she set with her courageous handling of ALS was an inspiration to all who knew her. She hoped to be remembered for her good hugs and nice smile.
Karen is survived by her husband Bob; children, Cathy Jeanne White, of Scottsdale and Jeffrey Robert White and his wife, Deborah of Crest Hill, Ill.; and grandchildren, Lydia and Mollie Kate.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 31, at American Evangelical Lutheran Church, with a luncheon reception following.
Memorials may be made to the church pipe organ fund.
