James Gallagher passed away in Miami Monday, Oct. 14, 2002. Services at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church have been tentatively set for Tuesday, Oct. 22. Published October 16, 2002. ------------------------------------- James R. Gallagher Jr., 76, of Superior, passed away Oct. 14, 2002. He was born in Chicago on Jan. 23, 1926, and was a resident of Superior for 20 years. Mr. Gallagher served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner, Seaman First Class. He then worked for 30 years as a meat cutter in the meat retail industry. He was on the board of the Pinal-Gila Council for Senior Citizens and was very active in the community. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very active in the St. Francis church as well, serving as a Eucharist Minister and a fifth grade CCD teacher. His hobbies were ceramics, crafts and reading. He will be deeply missed by his family and all that knew him. Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife, Patricia Gallagher; sons, Danny Ortiz of Florida and Patrick and Tyler, both of Superior; daughters, Mary Ann (Fred) McVean of Vail and Mary Teresa Murray of Phoenix; a sister, Lorraine (Edward) Hohler of Illinois; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A son, Jim, a daughter, Susan Marie and a granddaughter, Kathy Jo, preceded him in death. The Rosary and viewing were held Monday night at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated yesterday. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were made by the Superior Funeral Home. Published October 30, 2002.
