JENKINS, Alta Inez

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Sunday, April 30, 2006 Alta Inez Jenkins, age 105, died April 27,2006, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. She was born Nov. 12,1900, in Wisconsin. Alta had seen many changes in the world from horse-and-buggy days to jet travel. She was married twice - to brothers. Her first husband, Fred Jenkins, passed away. She later married Fred's brother, Clifford Jenkins. They shared about 40 years of marriage together. For many years Alta and Clifford traveled locally selling beauty and barber supplies and sharpening scissors for local shops. Alta attended the Assembly of God churches in California and Arizona for many years. For the past six years, Alta called Prescott Valley Samaritan Care Center her home, where she was known as the "unofficial greeter" to all new-comers. She was a regular attendee of the Bible study and Sunday church services there. She loved her Lord, her Bible and to play old hymns on her harmonica. Once someone asked Alta what her beauty secret was to which she replied, "soap and water." Even at the age of 105, Alta enjoyed pretty clothes, jewelry and having her nails manicured. Alta is survived by her son, Ray; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty. Commemoration services in honor of Alta will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Prescott Valley Samaritan Care Center with Chaplain Bill Kolb officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Prescott Valley Samaritan Care Center. Arrangements entrusted to Sunrise Funeral Home. Information provided by survivors.
