STEWART, Harry E.

The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ April 26, 2006, p. A13 Harry E. Stewart died on April 14 at home in Surprise. He lived in Wickenburg for the last 18 years before moving to Surprise due to health reasons last November. He was born on Sept. 10, 1918 in Minnihaha Flats, Ariz.; in the same home his mother was born. He grew up farming and milking cows for dairies all over the Valley, from Tolleson to Mesa. After World War II he started working in the construction industry in Phoenix as a heavy equipment operator. As a member of Operating Engineers Local 428 for over 40 years, he worked on major projects from the Kitt Peak Observatory to the building of Lake Havasu City and many, many in between. Harry belonged to the Prescott Old Timers Rodeo over the years and was a saddle bronc rider in the rodeos back in his day. Harry was from a long line of Arizona cowboys and cowgirls that worked, lived and loved the Arizona life. (Harry's Grandfather White was the first Yavapai County State Legislator in the State of Arizona.) He is survived by his bride of 63 years Shirley, and children Peggy (Richard) Johnson, Dennis (Jeanie) Stewart, Thomas Stewart, Gary Stewart, Betty (Jeff) Coombs, and Mike (Tambra) Stewart. He was preceded in death by daughter Eileen Kern. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was on Wednesday, April 19 at St. Thomas More Church at 6180 W. Utopia Road Glendale at 1 p.m. with burial at St Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sun Health Hospice or Interfaith Care Community in Sun City West are requested. If you had known Harry Stewart and were not aware of his passing, the family apologizes for this late notice due to the miscommunication with The Wickenburg Sun. We all were very blessed with a great father and friend. Harry's legacy will live long through that “love life on life's terms” belief he left with all who knew him.
