SARGENT, Neal Dow


The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ August 30, 2006, p. A11 Neal Dow Sargent passed away on Aug. 23 after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family at his home in Wickenburg. He was preceded in death by his wife Polly, his parents Neal, Sr. and Vivian, brothers Ellis and David, and sister Barbara Hutchins. Neal was born Aug. 9, 1924 in Johnson, Vt., to Neal Dow Sargent, Sr. and Vivian Parker Sargent. He spent his youth on the family farm in Johnson and enjoyed sugaring, hunting and fishing in the Vermont wilderness with family members. He married Pauline Colby Sargent in 1950 and together they moved to Phoenix in 1953. He was employed by Boeing Aircraft as a machinist and was proud to be a part of the space program during that era. He and Polly moved to Wickenburg after they both retired. Neal worked part-time at Stewart hardware where he was known as an “outstanding and innovative employee” by Scott Stewart. He loved to go to South Pond every year for a family reunion and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camaraderie with all his relatives and friends. He and his companion of the last 10 years Donna spent many enjoyable hours playing Yatzee, Scrabble and other board games with friends, while “Ted E. Bear,” his beloved dog, sat by his feet. Neal is survived by his companion Donna Brooks, sisters-in-law Frances Sargent of Prescott, Brenda Burlson of Ohio, and seven nieces including Becky Crone from Holland, and 10 nephews. Memorial services will be held Thursday (Aug. 31) at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor James Longstreet presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of David's Desert Chapel Funeral Home.
