Desiree June Daun Hawthorne, of Flagstaff, died Sept. 14, 2009, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 2, 1961, in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, the first child of Lyle Robert Daun and his late wife, Helene Christine Daun.
She was an "Army brat" who traveled with her family in the U.S. and Europe until she graduated from high school. She spent a short time in Reno, Nev., and San Francisco before settling in Flagstaff. She and her ex-husband, Kenneth Alan Hawthorne, raised three sons: Adam Robert Hawthorne, 23, Luke Andrew Hawthorne, 20, and Matthew David Hawthorne, 18. They were the loves of her life.
She worked in the restaurant/bar business for many years, before joining the Flagstaff Medical Center team as an admissions counselor who was devoted to patient advocacy.
Mrs. Hawthorne is survived by her three sons; her father; her ex-husband; sister Deborah Christine Daun; brother Robert William Daun (Suzy); many in-laws, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and her many friends.
She is buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Flagstaff. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Harvest Christian Fellowship, 2290 E. Route 66, in Flagstaff.
