Dorothy Marie O'Rourke, 85, passed away January 17, 2003. The daughter of Edward P. & Nova O'ROURKE, Dorothy was born in her grandparents' home in Terrell, Texas, on February 27, 1917.
The family moved to Phoenix from Glendale in 1927 where she attended Emerson elementary and St. Mary's Girls High School.
Trained as a classical pianist, she was active in music clubs and majored in Music Education at Arizona State (Teachers College) where she graduated with a B.A. degree.
Following several years teaching, she became chief clerk with the Office of Federal Probation and Parole in Phoenix where she remained until she retired.
Her outside activities included directing photographic exhibits at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens, Phoenix Camera Club, National Secretaries Association where she received recognition as International Secretary of the Year, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
She is survived by her sister, Patsy KENDIG MOONEY, brother-in-law, John MOONEY, nephew and his wife, Peter and Cynthia KENDIG, and cousin and family B.J. McKINNEY of Fayetteville, Georgia.
Visitation, Rosary and funeral services will be held at Whitney & Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd.
