BEGAY, Mary K.

JEDDITO — Gravesite services for Mary K. Begay, 79, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, in Jeddito. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Jeddito. Begay died Aug. 20, 2008, in Payson. She was born June 16, 1929, in Keams Canyon, into the Black Streaked Forest People Clan for the Towering House People Clan. Begay attended Keams Canyon Boarding School, Fort Apache Indian School, Fort Wingate High School. She was a homemaker, rug weaver, and enjoyed sewing. Begay taught her grandchildren to cook traditional food. She was a traditional woman, believed in NAC and was known for helping others. Survivors include her sons, Julius Begay, Tully Begay, Delbert Begay, all of Jeddito; daughters, Evelyn Begay of Whippoorwill, Doris Lynch of Vanderwagen, Bernita Begay, Kathleen Begay, both of Jeddito, Orlinda Begay, Geraldine Williams, both of Phoenix; brothers, Johnson Kaye, William Wilson, both of Jeddito; sister, Juanita Archie of Pinon; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren. Begay was preceded in death by her husband, Ned A. Begay; son, Philbert Begay; father, Hosteen Lizzie Nez; mother; sister, Edith Kaye Nelson; one grandchild. Pallbearers will be family members. Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
